Sustaining Livelihoods through Community Organizations

The Covenant Centre for Development (CCD) is a Madurai-based NGO active in the drought prone areas of South Tamilnadu. CCD was promoted in 1988 and registered as a society in 1989. Though its initial work focused on street children, CCD explored and developed ways and means to tackle migration. Promotion of savings and credit groups formed part of community mobilization and empowerment process that led to a comprehensive development initiative guiding the future perspective.

Mission CCD aims at utilizing the Local Resources and Traditional Skills of the community by promoting community-based organizations for sustainable development

  • VAIREM: Conserve natural resources through local community for ecological sustainability
  • SADANA: Organize communities to use their traditional skills for professional stability
